On November 29th Swedish MMA promotion Superior Challenge will host their 11th show in Södertälje, Stockholm. The Scandinavian outfit has been running since 2008 with shows being few and far between until more recently. That said, they boast a large amount of fighters who have either fought on major shows previously, or gone on to fight on the bigger stages.
Most recently, Cage Warriors bantamweight women’s champion, who was crowned just last week. Pannie Kianzad took a win at SC 10 before being launched into Cage Warriors and competing for the title inside a year.
A host of Brits have made the trip North to face international opposition and this time, there’s a fight of particular interest to us at ‘On the road with UKMMA’
Bantamweight stand out Ed Arthur, unbeaten so far, makes the journey to Stockholm to feature in the co-main event at Superior Challenge 11.
The young man from Hemel Hempstead trains under Deniston ‘Mad Max’ Sutherland and has made a real impression on the domestic scene in a few short years. Each time Arthur has been tested he has proved himself.
He faces Sweden’s Martin Akhtar in his own back yard, undoubtedly his toughest opponent yet. Akhtar is 4-2-0 in his professional career, with his most recent defeat at the hands of the now Cage Warriors champion Toni Tauru during the European giants inaugural trip to Scandinavia.
Martin fights out of Malmo Muay Thai & MMA with the likes of Malik Mawlayi and his wife Lina Akhtar-Lansberg, who is making waves in WMMA in her own right. His striking will be key to testing Arthur in this fight.
We have seen Ed Arthur mature and adapt as a fighter in each bout domestically and he has been able to find a way to win on every occasion. A real prospect for the UK, Arthur will be hopeful of taking the title home and announcing himself on the European stage.
We will be speaking with Ed in the run up to his fight, so make sure you ‘LIKE’ the Facebook page: On The Road with UKMMA
Also appearing on the card is one time Light Heavyweight contender Max ‘Power’ Nunes. The Swede was on the rise at 205lbs before a loss to Jason Jones saw a switch in weight class. Nunes impressed at 185 and was tipped for the UFC before England’s Scott Askham took a TKO victory and the call from Dana White along with it.
Max Nunes faces MMA stalwart Patrick Vallee who has faced a wealth of top UK talent, including Jack Mason & Paul Daley both handing him losses in recent fights. If Nunes can deliver the same, he may be back on track as he is still considered by most to be in the top 5 in Europe.
Superior Challenge 11 is set for Saturday 29th November at the AXA Sports Centre in Sodertalje, Stockholm.
