The 12th instalment of Full Contact Contender takes place tomorrow at Bolton’s Macron stadium, with a card featuring Cage Warriors veterans, newly-turned professional fighters and a slew of up-and-coming local amateur talent.

We at On the Road with UKMMA will be in attendance as usual at the Macron as Liverpool’s own Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett clashes with fellow undefeated 145’er Kevin ‘The Machine Gunn’ Petshi for the promotions Professional European title. The bout forms one half of the card’s main event. In his pre-fight interviews, Pimblett has been incredibly confident about his chances against Petshi, claiming he will be ‘legged in the first round’. Expect fireworks from this one.

The second part of the main event double header sees SBG Mainline welterweight Matt Inman take on France’s Aymard Guih, who stepped in to replace Inman’s initial opponent David Round. Inman looks to bounce back from his current two-fight skid against Guih, who last fought on English soil when he dropped a loss to Brad Wheeler on Cage Warriors 56 back in 2013.

Elsewhere, former FCC Amateur Lightweight Champion Ashley ‘The Beast’ Reece makes the step up to professional on the show that established him as one of the country’s most exciting amateur fighters. Welcoming him to the professional ranks tomorrow night will be Ian ‘Willy’ Williams. Reece has a reputation for entertaining the crowd, and we’re hoping for more of the same at FCC 12.

Aaron Aby, a regular face on Full Contact Contender cards, will be looking to bounce back from a brutal defeat at the hands of Danny Missin back in October. Aby, whose initial opponent withdrew due to injury, takes on Ben ‘The Handyman Dearden’ in what looks to be an entertaining bout.

In terms of the amateur ranks, no less than four titles will be contested on the show. Brent Tierney takes on Omar Frederick at 205lbs, Andreas Tricomitis looks to steal the Welterweight crown from Chris Senior, Shaun Kenny and Paul Wadsworth will do battle for the Heavyweight belt and in what could be the most exciting contest of the evening, Aaron Robinson looks to defend his spot atop the flyweights as he takes on John Shink in a battle of the prospects. Robinson postponed his move to professional to take on Shink, who was victorious despite some trouble from his opponent on Shinobi War 4 just three weeks ago.

The fight card can be found here, and for all the results and happenings from Bolton’s Macron stadium tomorrow night, keep an eye on On the Road with UKMMA on Facebook and Twitter.

FCC12: INMAN FACES FELLOW CAGE WARRIORS VET GUIH‏

cropped-fcc_logo.jpg

The North West’s hottest Pro/Am Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, Full Contact Contender (FCC), is proud to announce that French Cage Warriors veteran Aymard ‘Barrakuda’ Guih has stepped in to face SBGi Mainline standout and Cage Warriors fighter Matt Inman. The Englishman was left without an opponent following the removal of David Round due to medical concerns.

Guih is a member of the MK Legion outfit; a camp that has provided a number of notoriously tough Frenchman to international shows like CWFC in recent years. A Judo practitioner who is no stranger to wild brawls, Guih brings a respectable 8-4-1 ledger to the table and is coming off a recent title win in Russia.

Inman will be looking to recover from a two fight skid against the menacing Judoka, as he looks to regain the form which saw him string together four wins on the trot in CWFC’s stacked welterweight division.

Guih won’t be the lone Frenchman making the trip to Bolton for FCC 12. Teammate Abdel Lif – an undefeated flyweight prospect – will face Englishman Ste Nightingale in a catchweight contest after Nightingale’s original opponent was forced to withdraw. Nightingale returns to action following a significant spell on the side-lines rehabbing a knee injury.

FCC 12 is co-headlined by an international featherweight contest pitting Paddy Pimblett against Kevin Petshi. The card also features a number of amateur title fights and the professional debut of FCC amateur champion Ashley Reese.

FCC release statement on David Round withdrawal

David ‘one more’ Round was set to face Matt Inman in less that two weeks time at FCC 12 in Bolton.

Following a tournament bout this past weekend David Round has now been withdrawn from the bout. FCC released the following statement on what has happened.

It is with regret that FCC have this week made the decision to remove David Round from his fight against Matt Inmann on March 28th.

On March 7th, David competed on a show in Essex. Despite a spirited effort, David lost in the first round via TKO. David was reasonably marked up during the bout, dropped, and finished with a number of unanswered punches to the head and face.

FCC’s Press manager Brad Wharton was a judge for the contest and informed FCC promoter Adam Teh of the situation following the bout, making the strong recommendation that David be pulled from his scheduled slot at FCC 12. Following a brief discussion, the decision was made that David would not be allowed to compete as a safety concern, for reasons which should be immediately apparent.

Fighter safety is of paramount importance to FCC. We find it difficult to believe that any athletic commission or medical body would not have issued – at minimum – a 30 day suspension following the fight. In the United Kingdom it is the responsibility of promotors to self-regulate and it is for this reason that the decision was made.

On the 10th of March, FCC’s decision was vindicated when David posted the following via his Facebook account.

“Due to the injuries I have sustained to my eyes the and doctor’s orders I have to pull out of my fight March 28th against Matt Inman, I have bilateral commotio retinae or bruised retinae which if I continued to spar and compete with in the next 6 weeks could result in a tear or detachment and lead to loss of sight. I wish Matt the best in his fight and I will be back in June!”

It should be noted that FCC had made the decision to pull David before being informed of the eye injuries he sustained. FCC would like to wish David a full recovery, and look forward to having him fight on a future card.

FCC would like to apologise to David, Matt Inmann and their coaching staff for the decision, but it a decision we stand by and one that we feel is in the best interest of the fighters, FCC itself and the sport in the UK.

A replacement opponent is currently being sought for Matt Inmann; an announcement will be forthcoming.

Round posted the image below on his Facebook shortly after the bout at God’s of The Arena 2 in Essex. We wish David the best in his recovery and hope FCC find a suitable replacement.

With Cage Warriors future still unclear, Inman may well be able to face Round at a future date elsewhere, should he and coach Karl Tanswell wish to take that fight.

We will bring you any updates regarding FCC 12 as soon as anything is confirmed.

Amateur flyweight title fight added to FCC12

Aaron Robinson has delayed turning professional and will instead defend his amateur flyweight title against John Shink at FCC 12, it has been announced.

Robinson (3-2) clinched the vacant title within the first round in his last outing against Javonne Morrison, and has recently moved from Next Generation to Liverpool Vale Tudo.

Shink currently holds an unblemished record at amateur with six wins, the most important being a 2014 victory over highly-touted Dominic Wooding by decision.

Carl Burton was originally set to face Shink, but has withdrawn from the fight citing medical reasons.

Full Contact Contender promoter Adam Teh said: “After John’s original opponent was forced to withdraw, we knew it’d be tough to find a suitable replacement for such a high calibre fighter.

Needless to say I was delighted when Aaron answered the call to delay his move to the pro ranks and defend his FCC title,” he added.

Teh concluded: “Aaron wants to turn professional knowing he’s cleaned out the division, while for John this is an opportunity to confirm his status as the division’s top dog.”

FCC familiar face and crowd favourite Mitchell Richards has also been added to the card. A veteran of the promotion’s early events, Richards takes on Darlan Da Silva at 185lbs.

In other news, Aaron Aby will now face Ben Dearden at a catchweight following Mark Handy’s withdrawal through injury.

‘Machine Gunn’ aims to shoot down ‘The Baddy’ for FCC European gold

Cage Warriors featherweight Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett (7-1) will square off against unbeaten French prospect Kevin ‘The Machine Gunn’ Petshi (7-0) for Full Contact Contender’s European Featherweight title, the promotion announced yesterday.

FCC_Logo

Alongside Matt Inman’s clash with David ‘One More’ Round, the fight forms the other half of the show’s double main event, with Pimblett being granted a one-fight release from his CWFC deal to take on the Frenchman.

20-year-old Pimblett has carved himself a reputation as one of the UK and Europe’s hottest prospects, holding 2014’s ‘Submission of the Year’ after landing a flying triangle armbar on Conrad Hayes. Initially a bantamweight, the Next Generation fighter moved up to featherweight with a victory over Stephen Martin.

In his career to date, Petshi has competed at fly, bantam and now featherweight. The Team Gladiator prospect has made waves on the French circuit with his aggressive takedown and guard passing skills. ‘The Machine Gunn’ was also named at #6 on a list of UFC prospects by MMA media outlet MMASun last year.

Of the title clash, Full Contact Contender promoter Adam Teh said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to bring a contest of such magnitude to the FCC cage.

“Paddy is one of the most exciting fighters I’ve had the pleasure of watching over the past few years; his recent performances on Cage Warriors have been nothing short of phenomenal and have cemented his status as one of the UK and Europe’s hottest prospects.

“Kevin is a massive talent in his own right; the fact that he’s already on the radar of US media outlets speaks for itself,” he added.

Teh concluded: “Once again I’d like to thank CWFC for granting Paddy permission to compete. I’d also like to thank both fighters and their teams for shaking hands on what will no-doubt be an absolute thriller of a contest at FCC 12.”

Another CWFC veteran has also been added to the FCC 12 bill, with Adam Ventre taking on the returning Veselin Ivanov on the event’s undercard.

FCC announce main event and ‘The New Generation’

The North West’s hottest Pro/Am Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, Full Contact Contender (FCC), is proud to announce the main event for FCC 12. Cage Warriors regular Matt Inman will face hard-hitting giant-killer David ‘One More’ Round in the headliner of the promotion’s first show of 2015, on March 28th at Bolton’s Macron (Reebok) Stadium.

Inman (13-7) is a high-volume striking machine known for his incredible accuracy and ever-evolving ground game. The SBG Mainline fighter is looking to get back on track after a pair of losses in 2014 broke an impressive four-fight winning streak in Cage Warriors’ 170lb division. Inman holds notable victories over European prospects Gregor Weibel and Bagautdin Sharaputdinov, and a 44-second submission of recent CWFC title challenger Mohsen Bahari. Inman previously appeared at FCC 4 in October 2012, losing a contentious split-decision to wrestling phenom Ali Arish.

David Round (13-11) has built a reputation as a fearless competitor who never backs down from a contest over the course of his five-year MMA career. Physically suited to the light and welterweight divisions, Round has competed as high as heavyweight, scoring a string of (T)KO stoppages along the way. In 2013 the Welshman entered an eight-man, one-night heavyweight tournament, stopping his first two opponents in the first round before falling to Swiss prospect Volkan Oezdemir in the final.

Promoter Adam Teh said, “Matt Inman has been a regular face in the corner of many SBG fighters over the years at FCC shows, so it’s great to have him back inside the cage as the main event of FCC 12. He’ll be coming into this fight with a point to prove and no intention of letting the judges decide the outcome for him. David is a perfect foil; Matt is the technician, but David is tenacious and has power that carries up to heavyweight. I expect nothing less than a thrilling main event… I might even send the judges home early!”

Elsewhere on the card, a number of professional and amateur undercard contests have been revealed. Fan favourite Ste Nightingale (2-1) returns from a long injury layoff to face Ludus Magnus fighter Tommy Miller (2-1). Hugely popular former light heavyweight champion Shaun Hampton of Team Chongi becomes the latest FCC amateur standout to turn professional on the show. He’ll face newcomer Adam Wright.

In amateur action, a heavyweight bout between Next Generation’s Danny Dutch and Steve Nicholls has been added, as has a welterweight contest pitting SBG’s Orelando Flemming against Team Monkey’s Wez Smith.

Adam Teh said, “We’re dubbing FCC 12 ‘The New Generation’. With the likes of Ashley Reece, Javonne Morrison and Shaun Hampton turning pro, we’re seeing a new generation of fighters beginning their journey in the sport as professional athletes. At the same time, teams like SBG, Team Monkey, Next Generation and more are churning out a new wave of talented amateurs to take the FCC ranks by storm. We could well see the next Ashley Reece making his amateur debut on March 28th!”

Parker, Reece and Morrison Return for FCC 12

The North West’s hottest Pro/Am Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, Full Contact Contender (FCC), is proud to announce the initial batch of bouts for FCC 12. The promotion’s first event of their 2015 campaign will take place on the previously announced date of March 28th at Bolton’s Macron (Reebok) Stadium.

In a professional welterweight contest, Cage Warriors fighter Dez Parker returns to FCC to face UKMMA veteran Kayvan Fallah (5-2). Ludus Magnus’ Fallah began his professional career in 2005 with three fights on the Cage Warriors promotion, and returned from an eight year break from the sport in 2013. He proceeded to win three straight, but had that streak snapped by hot prospect Jack McGann at BAMMA 17 and will be looking to return to positive form.

No stranger to the ground game is Sukata MMA’s Dez ‘The Arm Collector’ Parker. A former amateur standout at FCC, Parker turned pro in 2013. His sole career loss came in a late-notice contest at FCC7, where the always game youngster faced SBG’s Alex Minogue at middleweight. Parker bounced back in 2014 going 2-0, including a nail-biting TKO victory over the highly touted Charlie Watts on Cage Warriors.

Promoter Adam Teh said, “Dez was one of our standouts as an amateur and it’s been great to see his career progress from there to the point that he’s been signed by a major promotion like Cage Warriors. I’m delighted to welcome him back and pit him against a veteran of the UK scene in Kayvan. I’d like to thank CWFC for granting Dez a temporary release from his exclusive deal in order to compete at FCC 12. FCC fans are going to be in for a real treat when these two crowd-pleasing welterweights throw down!”

Long-reigning FCC amateur lightweight champion Ashley ‘The Beast’ Reece makes his long-awaited professional debut. The Team Monkey MMA Academy fighter is a multiple-time FCC ‘Fight of the Night’ award winner, and has thrilled the FCC faithful in a series of stunning amateur title fights. Welcoming Reece to the pro ranks is Ian Williams (3-1), representing Team Gym-A-Holic.

Another FCC regular making his professional debut at FCC 12 is Reece’s stablemate Javonne Morrison. He’ll face Spartan MMA debutant Callum Jones.

In the amateur ranks, FCC favourite Chris Senior (6-2) will defend his amateur welterweight title against Andreas ‘The Judo Kid’ Tricomitis (3-1). FCC ‘KO of the Year’ candidate Michael Younis makes his first light heavyweight title defence against FCPC’s Brent Tierney. With Tom Aspinal turning pro, the vacant heavyweight title will be contested by Next Generation’s Shaun Kenny and Team Monkey’s Paul Wadsworth. Amateur flyweight champion Aaron Robinson has also left the amateur ranks; his newly vacant title will be contested by the undefeated John Shink (6-0) and 12-Gauge MMA’s Carl Burton.

Adam Teh said, “When we started out with FCC 1, the long-term plan was always to give amateur fighters a platform on which to flourish and grow into competent professionals. As such it’s fantastic to see the likes of Ashley and Javonne making their professional debuts at FCC 12. We’ve also got some phenomenal amateur title fights on deck; I guarantee that there will be a breakout star or two (or three, or four) in the cage on March 28th!”

An announcement regarding the main event of the show will be forthcoming.

Full Contact Contender Announce Flyweight Bout for March 28th

Full Contact Contender have announced the first bout on the FCC 12 card. The first FCC of 2015 takes place at Bolton’s MACRON Stadium and will feature the return of up and coming professional flyweight Aaron Aby.

The 125’er from Wrexham trains out of MMA Academy, Liverpool and has been a regular feature at FCC as both an amateur and a professional. Undefeated as an amateur, the accomplished grappler showed incredible heart in his last outing. He was stopped by Danny Missin in a bloody fight which was only his second career loss and he will have the opportunity to get bounce back on March 28th.

His opponent with be Spartan MMA’s Mark ‘Short Fuse’ Handley. Handley has fought high level opponents throughout his career and while his record of 5-11 may make him an underdog, his performances in the past prove he is a very capable fighter. He has fought the likes of Commonwelth Judo champion and Cage Warriors prospect Brett Caswell and gone the distance. The 34 year old has taken on some of the best in the division but recent results haven’t gone his way, his all round skill and experience should test Aby in this bout.

You can catch all the action at Full Contact Contender 12 on Saturday March 28th at the De Veres Suite, MACRON Stadium, Bolton, Greater Manchester.

More fights will be released in the coming weeks.

Full Contact Contender to Return March 28th with FCC 12

Full Contact Contender will host their opening show of 2015 on Saturday March 28th at the MACRON stadium in Bolton, Greater Manchester. FCC is now well established as one of the top showcases for amateur talent, not just in the North West, but in the country.

In 2014 we saw FCC veterans and guys who had cut their teeth in the ammy division at the De Veres Suite make the leap from the platform provided for them by Adam Teh and co. into the national shows.

Notables among these included Kane ‘The Danger’ Mousah, who might well appear on the same night at BAMMA, Lightweight stand out Brendan Loughnane who racked up victories to relaunch his career with some of his best performance to date inside the FCC cage and Pietro Menga, the FCC flyweight champion.

In the amateur rankings fighters and coaches want to stay busy and a jam packed calendar can see guys and girls fight on several different shows in the year.

Perhaps the exception to the rule for FCC is also their biggest coup. Teh has secured the services of the FCC lightweight amateur champ Ashley ‘The Beast’ Reece. The lightweight has appeared in more FOTN performances in recent times than most up and comers across Europe. His fight against Martin Chester to take the title is widely regarded as the ammy fight of 2013. He again appeared in a blockbuster in October 2014 defeating Ant O’Connor in the championship rounds.

After some speculation about where he would head when turning pro, Reece has inked a deal that will see him fight exclusively at FCC, in a 3 fight deal including his pro debut. From his first fight under the banner back at FCC 5 the Team Monkey fighter has proved to be a big draw for the crowd and is yet to disappoint the legions of fans that flock to each bout.

Below is a brief highlight of some of Reece’s fights at FCC.

FCC 12 will also feature the return of Aaron Aby of MMA Academy Liverpool who will have his hands full against a veteran. Kenneth “K Force” Richardson will also be back in the FCC cage after a win via peruvian necktie at FCC 5.
